At Horizon, we have assembled a top-notch refractive team committed to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients.
What is LASIK?
LASIK is an outpatient procedure that corrects or greatly improves three common causes of blurry vision: nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In these conditions when light enters the eye through the cornea, it fails to focus clearly on the back of the eye (retina). This results in blurred vision, which must be corrected with glasses, contacts, or LASIK. LASIK reshapes the cornea and restores good eyesight by focusing light clearly on the retina.
Are you a good candidate for LASIK?
If you wear glasses or contacts you could be a candidate for LASIK. Horizon Eye Care, as the ophthalmology provider for the Charlotte Checkers, offers free initial LASIK screenings and consultations. A LASIK screening consists of a thorough examination and testing of your eyes to make sure that LASIK is the right procedure for you. Some of the testing that we will use to determine whether you are a good candidate include dry eye testing, detailed refraction, an assessment of your vision, measurement of your pupil size in low and medium light, corneal topography (shape) and corneal thickness, and a comprehensive eye exam.
Once the pre-operative testing is complete, you and your LASIK doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure and answer any questions that you have. Additionally, we will walk you through the procedure step-by-step and review important postoperative instructions.
