“To those seeking corrective eye surgery please read the following carefully…I promise it will be worth your time!”
I am a business executive who has suffered from a significant astigmatism most of my adult life. Thus I decided several years ago to explore corrective (Lasik) surgery, in hopes of ridding myself the need for glasses. I visited several local (Charlotte) eye specialist and two of which I consider to be names you hear often in respect to Lasik surgery. At no time during my visits was I discouraged from having Lasik surgery done or told I might be at risk based on my astigmatism.
Then, on recommendation. I visited Dr. Lewis Gaskin. He kindly put me through a series of simple but analytical eye tests and precise measurements and quickly sat me down to inform me that Lasik was not an option for me. He carefully explained why and actually took the time to sit with me in his office and review pictures, measurements and the topography of my cornea as it pertained to my particular astigmatism. Dr. Gaskin went on to point out why I was seeing halos while driving at night. In his final analysis he offered me a solution no one else had. Not to mention he steered from doing what others had recommended and based on my condition could have easily made my eye sight worse. His recommendation was Implants which would correct my vision for distance forever and at the same time correct the issues I was having with not seeing well at night (which by the way had nothing to do with my astigmatism and something no one else had ever discussed with me before).
Before performing the surgery he had me return several more times. While each additional visit was quick and painless, he was taking extra time to recapture the data so as to ensure a perfect measurement on the day of the surgery. The night before surgery Dr. Gaskin called me at home and assured me of the plan the next morning and said he was reviewing my file one last time before entering the operating room the next morning. The surgery itself was actually a breeze and painless and while a bit more involved than the traditional Lasik procedure so I am told. However here is the best part! I returned to his office later than afternoon after he had performed the implant surgery on each eye. Keep in mind this is the same day of the surgery some 6 hours later. On the first eye after surgery I now had perfect 20 x 20 vision. On the second eye when checked later that same day after surgery I had 20 x15 actually better than perfect vision. I also can see so much better now at night than I could in the recent past.
At the end of the day, the purpose of my lengthy note is personally thank you Dr. Gaskin as well as your wonderful team that you have surrounded yourself with. You have an implacable bedside manner and you are no doubt a perfectionist and a true professional in every sense of the word. In closing, I hope you will share my story and comments with others so folks understand there is the so called “Lasik factories” out there, no doubt and I suppose they serve a purpose but if you truly want the right solution for your eyes and individual situation and you want it done by all means go to the best….Go see Dr Gaskin.
Forever grateful….and I am sincerely, Rob S.
